Background for Practice from Sciences and Humanities
This concept resonates with me because it highlights the importance of blending knowledge from different areas of nursing like humanities, genetics, public health, quality improvement, health economics, and organizational sciences to improve patient care. This approach aligns perfectly with my passion for using evidence-based practices to create lasting change. Understanding public health trends in our communities is crucial for healthcare providers and is something I want to focus on to help improve both individual and population health. I’m excited to contribute to the nursing field and work toward building healthier, stronger communities with dedication and hard work.
As a nurse practitioner student at King University, my journey through the sciences and humanities has been incredibly eye-opening, showing me both where I excel and where I have room to grow. I’m all about lifelong learning, especially when it comes to applying scientific knowledge to solve tough healthcare problems. Some of my assignments, like analyzing new healthcare technologies, have been a great opportunity to dive into how these innovations could improve patient outcomes. I’ve also had the chance to work on projects like researching the opioid epidemic and evaluating healthcare information online, which helped me sharpen my critical thinking skills. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to continuing my growth while balancing the technical side of science with the compassionate care that is at the heart of nursing.
Strength & Weaknesses
One of my strongest attributes is my passion for public health and evidence-based practice, particularly when it comes to understanding emerging trends and applying that knowledge to improve patient care. I’m driven to explore complex healthcare challenges, and this drive motivates my ongoing commitment to learning and innovation. However, I’ve realized that while I excel in the scientific and technical aspects of nursing, I’m still working to strengthen the balance between that and the empathetic, human side of care. Projects like writing about the opioid epidemic and evaluating website credibility have allowed me to grow in this area by challenging me to think critically while staying grounded in compassion. These experiences have broadened my perspective and reinforced the importance of lifelong learning and self-reflection in my journey toward becoming the kind of provider I aspire to be.
